Interesting Architecture in Wyke Road, Gillingham
I have been told that this building was the old Matthews Brewery. Matthews was taken over by the
Blandford brewery, Hall & Woodhouse, in 1963.
The brewery actually closed in 1965, although Hall & Woodhouse began supplying the pubs it bought
along with the brewery from Blandford straight away.
Approaching Gillingham Station by Rail
Gillingham is served by the Exeter - London Waterloo main line. The 'first sod' of this line was cut here
on the 3rd of April, 1856, and the line opened as far as Gillingham on the 2nd of
May, 1859.
