RSS Information

RSS, or RDF Site Summary, is a way of providing the internet user with an easily accessible summary of frequently changing information on the internet. One of the first uses was to provide news headlines, but now many other uses have been found such as summaries of weblogs or blogs and site contents summaries. Each stream of information is known as an RSS channel or RSS feed.

By way of an example, here is this site's 'Old Rabbit's Almanac' channel displayed by the Firefox web browser:

All you need to read RSS information is a suitable piece of software, and this software is already built in to many internet applications such as the popular Mozilla Firefox web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird email client.

Many web sites now have RSS channels and will often indicate them with a link button such as RSS. Applications such as Firefox can automatically detect RSS channels associated with a page. Firefox indicates that a channel is available by placing an orange icon in the bottom right hand corner of the browser window:

There are two RSS channels currently available on Catnip Corner. Old Rabbit's Almanac gives you some lighthearted information about today. Catnip Corner Contents gives you an easy way to import a list of bookmarks that provide quick access to all the major features on this web site.
